The Most Important “Gift” Is the One You Give “Yourself"
This article is much like my Holiday Article from previous Holiday Seasons, With a bit of a twist.
There always seems to be a never-ending list of things to do and places to go. In fact, there are so many wonderful things that keep us very busy during this time of year.
This paragraph pretty much sums up my life during EVERY Season, and I’d bet my last Candy Cane that you’re thinking the same thing!
"You can't pour from an empty cup. Take care of yourself first." - Zen Master Ryutan
Oftentimes we get so wrapped up in our day-to-day hustle and bustle that we forget to slow down and take care of ourselves. Trust me, running yourself Ragged is not helping anyone!
If you’re anything like me, you can’t wait for the Holidays to be over so you can slow down, relax and take a couple of days off. We always have good intentions, but all too often something else comes up that’s more important (or so we think) and we postpone the time that we had set aside to give to ourselves. We plan to take time for ourselves later. Again and again, time after time, the same thing happens. Great intentions turn into the sacrificial lamb.
We convince ourselves that we’ll be fine, but in reality, we’re unknowingly sabotaging our own well-being, setting ourselves up for burnout.
It’s essential to carve out intentional time in your day or week to focus on your mind, body, and soul. This “me time” is not a luxury—it’s a necessity.
Whether it’s savoring a quiet morning to reflect on the beauty of a new day, taking a peaceful mid-day stroll through town square, indulging in a warm & relaxing bath after a long day, getting a massage, or sharing a candle-lit dinner with a loved one, these types of precious moments allow you to recharge and prioritize your mental and physical health.
Sometimes having a special dedicated “ME Space” in your home is a great way to ensure that you routinely practice Self-Care. Turn that unused Guest Room into a “Man-Cave”, “She-Shed” or “Zen-Spa”. No matter what you call it, the important thing is that it’s all yours. A place for you to unwind, relax, recharge, and find your center.
