Jingle Bells, Jingle Bells, Jingle, What?! Are you kidding me? It’s Winter already!
So much to do! Family is coming to visit, the Kids are on Winter Break soon, Decorations need to be put up then taken down, there’s Shopping to do, there are Parties to attend, Pies to Bake, and Feasts to Eat. In fact, there are so many wonderful things that keep us very busy during this time of year, it’s easy to forget to stop and help others.
“It is more Blessed to give than to receive” (Acts 20:35)
Oftentimes we get so wrapped up in our day-to-day hustle and bustle that we forget to slow down and remember what this time of year is all about. It’s about love and giving of ourselves; Giving to others who may not have “enough”. Just to be clear, that doesn’t necessarily mean Money. This means our time, our kindness, our love, our helping hands, and our abundance. Not for fame, not for bragging rights, and certainly not for Tik-Tok, but instead to add warmth and put a smile in the Heart of someone else.
Maybe Christmas doesn’t come from a store. Maybe Christmas perhaps means a little bit more.
Here comes another Challenge (I love a challenge, don’t you?).
Giving shouldn’t be just during the Holidays, it should be ALL the days. This Winter let’s all make an effort to think of (and DO) one thing each and every week, that will bring light and happiness to others.
Just in case you need a few suggestions to get your heart going, here you go -
Volunteer at a local Elder Care Facility, Children’s Services Facility, Pet Shelter, Domestic Abuse Shelter, Hospice. – Write a card or send a care package to our deployed Military Heroes. – Buy a cup of coffee or a meal for a local First Responder. (Police, Fire, Medical, etc.) – Provide School Supplies to a local Teacher or School. – Become a Mentor for someone who would like some guidance in your area of expertise. – Visit with a neighbor who may not have family nearby. – Donate Time, Money, Food or Clothes to any charity. - Adopt a Family in need. – Smile at passers-by and wish them a Beautiful Day.
Grand gestures are wonderful, but small acts of kindness can also make a world of difference to someone who needs it.
There are so many opportunities to Give, and not just during the Holidays. Let’s make a difference in someone’s day, Every Day, all Winter long! You’ll be glad you did.
In the words of the late, great Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. “Life’s persistent and most urgent question is, ‘What are you doing for others?’”
