Water. Now there’s a hot topic!

We’ve all seen the news. We’re in a Drought. April was the 6th driest April on record. We’re watching Lake Meade and other major Arizona water sources' levels drop to dangerously low levels. I don’t know about you, but every time I see one of those stories, my anxiety level gets higher and higher. I bet yours does too. Water is our MOST precious resource, and according to the news, we don’t have much of it left. So what can we do about it?

Let’s talk about Water Conservation.

Living in the Prescott area, we all know that Water is an issue. The more we grow, the less water we have to go around. While we’re not going to be able to stop the growth (let’s face it, we live in a pretty amazing place), we CAN all do our part to reduce our usage to help offset the impact of Drought & Growth, to help protect this beautiful place that we call Home.

Water Conservation sounds like such a big task, but in reality, if we each make a small effort, together we can make a big impact.

Let’s all make a pact. Let’s take 10 minutes out of each day to identify at least 3 ways that we can change our habits to keep that precious liquid from being wasted.

As we’re walking around our Home or Business, take a visual inventory of our water use and ask ourselves,
  • “Is there a way to use less water in this area?”
  • Are my Plants low-water and drought-tolerant?
  • Do I have any leaks in my hoses, spigots, and connectors?
  • Are my Sprinklers watering ONLY the plants and not the house, sidewalk, and driveway?
  • How can I reduce evaporation from my pool, spa, and fountains?
  • Can I collect rainwater and graywater and use that water on my plants instead?
  • When I wash my car, is the carwash that I use recycling water?
  • Can I replace my faucets, toilets, or other fixtures with more water-efficient versions?
  • Can I reduce the time spent in the shower?
  • Can I reuse the water that I’m running while waiting for the shower to get warm?
  • How can I conserve and/or reuse my water in all areas of my home or business?
There are hundreds of ways that we can reduce our water usage on a daily basis. By simply asking yourself if there’s a more water-conscious way to do it, you and I will be able to come up with some pretty creative solutions.
